University of Virginia

  • 4 Year
  • Charlottesville, VA

Freshman : I absolutely love everything about the University of Virginia. I visited several colleges before making my decision and knew that UVA was the place for me. It has a great reputation, the grounds are beautiful, and being part of a sports team is an added plus and has many rewards. My team is like family. Also, the area around the university, is very inviting. There is so much to do with lots of dining and shopping. I know that having a UVA degree will help me in the future in finding a good job. I can’t picture myself to be anywhere else! This University has it all!

James Madison University

  • 4 Year
  • Harrisonburg, VA

Junior : James Madison University is an outstandingly fantastic campus, which includes nice students and helpful staff. Harrisonburg may not be the biggest college town, but there’s things always going on off campus, as well as on campus grounds as well. Furthermore, studies are taken seriously, as well as any extracurriculars, especially music, which is something JMU excels at, and football, with our team going to the National Championship two times in recent years. It’s not like a big name college, such as Alabama or Notre Dame, but it has that feel of one. It has the heart of one. It has the people of one. If you’re considering applying or coming to a decision, this is definitely a great place to call home, even if it’s just for a little while. And if you aren’t considering, please do! Come take a tour of the town of Harrisonburg and the campus JMU has. It has everything a college kid needs to succeed and have a little fun as well!

Virginia Commonwealth University

  • 4 Year
  • Richmond, VA

Freshman : This college has a number of resources that are available to it’s students, such as counslers, tutors, and more. I highly recomend VCU to anyone who wants to be succesful in their major, and make a new family along the way. The communities here at VCU are so inclusive and accepting, they can make anyone feel at home! The classes at VCU are challenging but the as a student you reap the benifits from the hard work. Proffessors are always willing to work with their students to ensure their success in their classes, with flexible office hours for example. Also if you for some reason miss a lab most instructors will help you find a lab that works with your schedule to insure your grade won’t suffer.

Virginia Tech

  • 4 Year
  • Blacksburg, VA

Niche User : Virginia Tech is an ideal institution for new opportunities and growth. There is such a huge amount of school spirit and pride for being a Hokie with the students, which I have never genuinely heard or seen from other institutions! Campus/student life is notably wonderful, and the majority of the students are incredibly lively and welcoming. There are so many different people on campus, and they all have their own amazing passions. The institution provides exposure to many experiences to explore like clubs, GobblerFest, athletics and football games, dorm activities, parties, hiking trails, and even checking out scenic spots on campus and throughout the town. From what I’ve already experienced through campus visits as a prospective Freshman for Fall 2018, I’m so stoked to fully experience and indulge in everything about my new second home!

University of Richmond

  • 4 Year
  • University of Richmond, VA

Freshman : Everything is pretty awesome here. Small classes allow you to be noticed and the professors really seem to care about you. Their focus on LA allows students to either branch out or stick on a designated route. The campus is beautiful. Basically, it’s pretty cool.

The students are also pretty awesome. I never did anything with greek life and met my friends mostly through nerdy clubs (games club, anime, video games, etc), so my friend group is contrastingly diverse (though quite extensive) relative to the other reviewers.

The Comp Sci program (my area) here is also definitely growing, so I’m excited to see what happens. You could say I have no regrets!

Old Dominion University

  • 4 Year
  • Norfolk, VA

Freshman : As my first year here at ODU comes to a close I have to say I have really enjoyed it and cannot wait for sophomore year. The campus is very diverse and that was a big thing for me first coming here. From the students to the professors. So far I have not had a single professor that I didn’t like, and am thankful at how understanding and helpful they have been. Also, I have made many relationships with my peers and professors and have learned the importance of networking. I am not one of those students who parties often, but ODU parties are great especially after one of our athletics teams win. Also, keep in mind you are at college and not everyone has good intentions so make friends and travel in groups and be safe. Future students if you decide to live on campus their are so many options after your first year. The first year you don’t have as much to choose from but I am excited I will be staying in these really comfy campus apartments. I cannot wait for the years to come here at ODU!

Norfolk State University

Alum : Excellent experience. Financial aid process was an odyssey, but what college isn’t? I loved marching in the “Spartan Legion”, which only heightened the positive experience I had as a student at Norfolk State. I encourage every prospective student to take a serious look at the possibilities of visiting Sparta and becoming a member of Norfolk State University!

Freshman : Radford University is the perfect school to help new student embrace their personality and not be afraid to try new things. The clubs and diversity that Radford University has makes it easier for upcoming freshman not be afraid to try new things and it’s a great way to make friends! The academics that they offer is amazing, from helping us with our majors to helping us get internships at other jobs that will help us set up our future in the right path. The staff at Radford is very unique, the care that they have for their students is remarkable! They want us to succeed in every possible way! Whether it be in our academics or sports, or confidence, etc, they never fail to to be that guiding/lending hand that we all need. Washington & Lee University

  • 4 Year
  • Lexington, VA

Freshman : W&L offers endless opportunities to its students (grants, fellowships, study abroad, extracurriculars, classes, etc.). The culture is social; people are friendly and energetic. Greek life and parties are popular, but learning to navigate this environment strengthens your sense of self and knowledge of your own needs. There are other people and alternative activities – a student just needs to be willing to explore beyond what is the most visible option.

There is work to do and changes still to be made here, but that’s why W&L’s motto is “not unmindful of the future.” If you are willing to fully challenge yourself to take action in and out of the classroom, you will truly find a home here among the quaint city of Lexington, the beauty of the nature, and the enthusiasm of the professors. Reaching adulthood and personal growth isn’t meant to be easy, but at W&L, you will build relationships that remind you what it’s all for.

Virginia State University

Niche User : I visited the agricultural unit and was VERY impressed. Especially with the blueberry fields. Everyone teaching appeared confident and and were able to present their information in an easy to learn way. The large variety of hopps seemed to be thriving and it was a unique experience learning about them. Who would’ve guessed that the different ‘genders’ of hopps have to be kept a certain distance away from each other? All around worthwhile!

Virginia Union University

  • 4 Year
  • Richmond, VA

Graduate Student : In the graduate program in Education, I feel it would be very helpful if the first required course you have to take is Technology. The reason why I strongly believe this is because this program requires a lot of research and writing. All reports are either written or presented using Power Point or Excel. Many students, like myself know the basics of Microsoft Word but struggle with the details of a program like Power Point and Excel. We need to acquire a higher proficiency in technology because as teachers and administrators we will be faced with utilizing these skills every day.

Freshman : This is as you know it is a all male college. This college has very good professors. The professors are easy to talk to and ask for help! HSC has a very good reputation within the state of Vrigina. Everyone is nice and welcoming. The pledge you sign is awesome. I can leave my stuff around with out it getting stolen. The buidlings are awesome, and they provide us students with plenty of study spaces. The staff are very willing to help you no matter what. The dorms are C rated altough. Overall, this college is great!

Roanoke College

Junior : Great campus. great professors. great curriculum. overall, a great school! I came into this school having no direction or plan and it wasn’t long before Roanoke helped me discover my passion. Small class sizes make it so easy to develop connections with both your classmates and professors. You aren’t just a number here, and, personally, these connections have helped me grow and recognize my strengths and talents. In return, I have been given so many wonderful opportunities at this school that have truly prepared me for life after graduation. I would recommend Roanoke College in a heartbeat.

George Mason University

Niche User : What I like about GMU is its proximity to Washington DC and being located in Northern Virginia. The location of the college gives students an endless amount of possibilites to prosper and engage with their community. The diversity of GMU makes everyone feel included, because they actually are! The events that different clubs and groups put on allow college students and locals to enjoy and take their minds off of stressful things, and just have a great time!

This is a great place for anyone who loves to show their leadership or aspires to be a leader in any way. Faculty and Staff are amazing and love to have an impact on their students in many ways they can. I love MU Apply now and have an amazing Experience!

Hampton University

  • Hampton, VA

Junior : The absolute best experience I can share it when I first arrived at HU, day one freshmen year I was embrace like all of the students as a part of our established class name and identity; in my case Onyx 11 (it just so happen my brother was Onyx 7, and mom was Onyx 4). It made sense that even though we all start together with our big dreams and goals, but understand we may not finish our race together. But you will always belong to Onyx11, forever. It relatively easy to seek out and join organizations that fit your interest and personality. Unfortunately, the dormitories NEED a major overhaul! GO HU.

University of Lynchburg

  • Lynchburg, VA

Sophomore : I have found my home at the University of Lynchburg. Moving from MA to VA was a terrifying pursuit, but exceptionally worth it. I have made the best friends of my life. I have joined a sorority, became a member of the Westover Honors College, and became Vice President of Recruitment for my Panhellenic Council. The education I receive at this institution is like no other. I have created both professional and personal relationships with my professors, and I couldn’t ask for better!

Longwood University

  • 4 Year
  • Farmville, VA

Niche User : I’m an incoming Freshman and while I’m not currently living on campus or taking classes, I’ve already fallen in love with Longwood. The staff are super helpful and response time via email is usually the day of or two days at most. The campus isn’t just the campus, it’s the town. Everyone is super friendly and makes you feel at home. The restaurants are amazing (I recommend Riverside Cafe’s bacon, it melts in your mouth yet it’s crunchy!) and there are plenty of activities that you can be a part of! I cannot wait to start attending Longwood this fall and I hope that you can see what longwood has to offer.

Christopher Newport University

  • 4 Year
  • Newport News, VA

Sophomore : My first year at CNU was amazing! The outside scenery is beautiful. The grass, flowers, buildings, equipment, etc is very well up kept. The University President is extremely friendly and proactive within the community, which gives a very welcoming feeling. The dorms are very nice compared to other colleges surrounding the peninsula. The student to teacher ratio really helps students become comfortable with asking questions in a formal setting and learn more hands on.

College of William & Mary

  • 4 Year
  • Williamsburg, VA

Freshman : I love this college! There are many things to do in Williamsburg, but also around campus, as well. It’s a smaller school, which is great, and the majority of the professors try to get to know their students. It’s fairly easy to get into undergraduate research here, which is great for future endeavors. The housing process is bad because they don’t do a head count of everyone and have to deal with running out of housing/rooms. The course selection website is awful and constantly crashes when trying to register. Other than that, it’s great.

Randolph-Macon College

Freshman : Here at Randolph-Macon is very interesting and fun. I’m able to focus on my studies as well as hang with friends without falling behind in class. The activities they have are fantastic and everyone is able to connect and make new friends. The Randolph-Macon neighborhood is also peaceful and have cool shops, so if you want to get away from the campus life, just into town and explore.

Shenandoah University

Junior : I have loved my time at Shenandoah! The staff and faculty are all extremely passionate about their specialties. They are open and will sit down and have a heart to heart conversation with you. The campus is warm and inviting, the student life is full of energy and opportunities for involvement. We all come together for the homecoming football games in the fall, and the breathtaking conservatory performances all year round. My favorite time of the year on campus is just before Winter break when campus is all decorated with red and blue Christmas lights. And then there’s always the Apple Blossom festival at the end of the spring semester.

Junior : The University of Virginia’s College at Wise is a wonderful place to attend school and to get your degree from. The scenery around the school is very beautiful and it helps you focus as a student. The professors are great teachers and pushes you past your limits. They definitely give you great help and knowledge to help you succeed in the classroom and in life. All of the professors, deans, and staff are very interactive with the student body and each other. One thing I would like to see changed about the college is the diversity. I would like to see more students of different ethnics and races. Besides that, the college is great!
